Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Alan Babbitt

Women's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Centre in Season Debut

Sophomore defender Halle Barnard's first collegiate goal helped the Hope College women's soccer team earn a 1-1 draw at Centre College (Kentucky) in Friday's season opener.

Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford HS) scored on the Flying Dutch's first shot of the game.

Junior defender Grace Fowler (Cumming, Georgia / Pinecrest Academy) set up the goal 2 minutes, 44 seconds after the opening kickoff. The transfer from the University of Tampa recorded her first assist at Hope.

The Flying Dutch maintained the lead until late in the first half. Centre's Claire Cavacini delivered the equalizer with 2:27 remaining in the half.

Neither team could break the tie after halftime despite combining for 11 shots.

Senior goalkeeper Kendall Robertson (Jackson, Michigan / Western) recorded all four of her saves during the second half. Robertson is a transfer from NCAA Division II quarterfinalist Grand Valley State University.

Centre goalkeepers Anna Thomas and Grace Dutch each collected three saves during the first and second halves, respectively.

The game was delayed at the start for 55 minutes due to lightning.

Hope's next game is the home opener on Monday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. vs. Carleton College (Minnesota) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Individual game tickets can be ordered through the Hope Ticket Office online or at the gate beginning at noon.
