Women's Golf Shoots 346 to Open MIAA Play

The Hope College women's golf team shot a team score of 346 to open the MIAA play on Thursday at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck.

The Flying Dutch finished fifth in the nine-team event.

Sophomore Jaiden Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie HS) led Hope's scoring group with an 11-over-par 83 and tied for 15th in the 60-golfer field.

Junior Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) chipped in an 86.

Sophomore Allyson Zuidema (Northville, Michigan / Northville) shot an 88.

Sophomore Kylie Gernaat (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) chipped in an 89.

Junior Hannah Finch (Dexter, Michigan / Dexter) carded a 90.

Saint Mary's College took first after firing a 313 total — eight strokes ahead of second-place Calvin University and 10 ahead of third-place Trine University.

Adrian College (335) finished fourth and was followed by Hope, Kalamazoo College (354), Alma College (359), Albion College (363) and The University of Olivet (379).

Saint Mary's Melanie Maier and Trine's Grace Dubec shared co-medalist honors by carding 75s.

Five more Hope golfers competed during the tournament.

Senior Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte) shot an 82 and was followed by sophomore Rachael Jones (Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) with an 84 freshman Jenna Wallace (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) with an 85, junior Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) with a 90, and senior Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie) with a 97.

Hope's next event is Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. with a match-play event against Calvin University honoring Joan Stafford, the late wife of head coach Greg Stafford.
