The second-ranked Hope College volleyball team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a thrilling five-set win at DeVos Fieldhouse on Saturday.
The Flying Dutch outlasted Otterbein University, 25-18, 24-26, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12 during the second round of the Hope College September Tournament. On Friday, Hope lost to top-ranked Juniata in four sets.
On Saturday afternoon, Hope fell to No. 6 Wisconsin-Oshkosh. 25-17, 25-22, 25-23.Â
The Flying Dutch are now 8-2 overall on the season.Â
Against Otterbein (6-4), Hope nabbed four of the last five points of the match.Â
Senior Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason HS) helped Hope to a .237 team hitting percentage with season-high 22 kills.Â
Fellow classmates Alison DeWeerd (Kentwood, Michigan / South Christian) and Addie VanderWeide (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) also contributed.
DeWeerd picked up a career-high 18 kills against the Cardinals. VanderWeide slammed down a season-high 18 kills.Â
Junior Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline) recorded two season-high stats with 61 assists and 15 digs.
Senior Samantha Seib (Elkhorn, Wisconsin / Catholic Central) had 15 digs.Â
Sophomore Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and junior Brooke Fox (Saumenin, Illinois / Pontiac Township) each recorded two blocks.Â
Against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Lockett topped Hope with 9 kills. Burbridge and VanderWeide contributed 8 and 7 kills, respectively.Â
Lee finished with 29 assists and 14 digs.Â
Seib had 16 digs in the second match of the day.Â
Oshkosh (10-2) served up six aces to Hope's three. The Flying Dutch hit .275 as a team and received a match-high 16 kills from Robyn Kirsch.
Hope returns to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the Flying Dutch welcome North Park University to DeVos Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. matchup.
