Carley Wagasky's Hat Trick Fuels Women's Soccer Victory at Illinois Wesleyan

Carley Wagasky delivered a grand performance for the Hope College women's soccer team.

The senior from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS) propelled the Flying Dutch to a 6-2 victory at Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday.

Wagasky recorded Hope's first hat trick in three years by scoring twice during the opening 10 ½ minutes, then once more early in the second half.

Madison Holloway posted the Flying Dutch's last three-goal game during a 6-0 victory against North Park University (Illinois) on Sept. 8, 2021, at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Hope improved to 4-2-1 on the season with its fourth consecutive victory.

Wagasky, who has scored in four consecutive games, struck for the first time 3 minutes, 22 seconds into the game. Junior Grace Fowler (Cumming, Georgia / Pinecrest Academy) registered the assist.

Seven minutes later, Wagasky pushed the Flying Dutch's lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal.

Illinois Wesleyan (2-6-1) pulled within a goal on Sophie Lampert's tally in the 16th minute, but junior Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) answered 51 seconds later with her first goal of the season and the second of her career. Sophomore Bri Rose (Hudsonville, Michigan / Unity Christian) recorded the assist.

The Titans cut the deficit to one 3 ½ minutes into the second half on Tegan Timerman's goal.

Wagasky capped her career-best scoring performance in the 60th minute thanks to assists from Fowler and sophomore Halle Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford). Wagasky tops the Flying Dutch with six goals this season.

Sixty-three seconds later, junior Liz Bellinger (Williamston, Michigan / Williamston) blasted in her first goal of the season and the seventh of her career. Junior Megan McCauley (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) had her first collegiate assist.

Sophomore Heidi Berkey (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) closed the scoring for the Flying Dutch in the 79th minute with her first collegiate goal. Freshman Kate Albrecht (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) recorded her first collegiate assist.

Hope's next game is Friday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m. vs. Ohio Wesleyan University at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
