Seth Walters Scores Twice, Ninth-Ranked Men's Soccer Ties DePauw

Two Seth Walters goals three minutes apart set the ninth-ranked Hope College men's soccer team up for another successful 90 minutes on the pitch.

A late foul in the box and a converted penalty kick spoiled the Flying Dutchmen's bid for an eighth victory, and they setted for a 2-2 draw against DePauw University (Indiana) on Wednesday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Hope, ranked in the Top 10 of the United Soccer Coaches poll for the first time since the 2014 season, is now 7-1-1 on the season.

DePauw's record is 4-2-2.

The Flying Dutchmen overcame a Braden Murphey right-footed blast in the 17th minute that gave DePauw an early lead.

Walters (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph HS) evened the score in the 31st minute. The junior took a feed up the near side from sophomore Alan Alcala (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) and buried it top shelf.

It was Alcala's first assist of the season.

In the 34th minute, Walters struck again as he headed in a long cross from sophomore Josh Weigel (Naperville, Illinois / Naperville Central) for a go-ahead goal and his fifth of the season. It was Weigel's first assist of the season.

Walters also finished with his second career multi-goal game and the first since the 2022 season.

The 2-1 Hope lead stood up until the 81st minute.

DePauw's Jung Ryu drew a foul in the box while trying to head a cross. AJ Hockstok booted the PK into the lower-right corner of the goal.

Both teams traded saves over the final nine minutes and finished with 15 shots for the game.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. Central at No. 21 University of Chicago.
