Three Chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Three from Hope College have been selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week: junior Lauren Lee in volleyball, junior Ian Petruska in men's cross country and freshman Maddie VandeBunte in women's cross country.

Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Skyline HS) is the MIAA Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the sixth time in her career.

The setter and biology major spearheaded the Flying Dutch's 3-0 start to the season at the University of Northwestern (Minnesota) tournament, which included two victories against nationally ranked opponents.

Lee averaged 10.27 assists, 3.18 digs, 4.0 kills, 2.0 blocks and a hitting percentage of .600 over 11 sets against No. 7-ranked Northwestern, No. 17 WashU and Coe College (Iowa).

Petruska is the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.

The junior from Fort Collins, Colorado (Fort Collins) raced to a first-place finish at The University of Olivet Comet Invitational and led the Flying Dutchmen's winning team performance.

Petruska clocked a time of 14 minutes, 12.5 seconds on a shortened course at Broadway Acres Golf Course in Charlotte that was adjusted due to flooding.

VandeBunte is the MIAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The freshman from Jenison, Michigan (Jenison) ran to a winning effort at the Comet Invitational of 18:02.1 in her first collegiate meet.
