Women's Indoor Track and Field Wins Six Events, Ties for Third at Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic

The Hope College women's indoor track and field team posted six first-place performances on Friday at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic.

Juniors Elliana Johnson, Catherine Leahy and Sara Schermerhorn; sophomore Annika Sytsma; freshman Lily Sackrider; and the 4x400 relay all won for the Flying Dutch.

Hope totaled 135 points in the five-team meet. Host Aquinas College won with 148 points to finish ahead of Cornerstone University (136), Hope, Davenport University (58) and Muskegon Community College (9).

In the 800 meters, the Flying Dutch claimed the top four times, starting with a first-place run of 2 minutes, 31.92 seconds from freshman Lily Sackrider (St. Johns, Michigan / St. Johns HS).

Junior Emma DeJoy (Pittsford, New York / Our Lady of Mercy) finished runner-up at 2:34.92. Freshman Erin Stuk (Pinckney, Michigan / Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard) took third at 2:37.46. Freshman Elise Bodary (New Boston, Michigan / Father Gabriel Richard was fourth at 2:38.28.

In the 200 meters, Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids) won by clocking a time of 26.69 seconds. Freshman Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois/ Montini Catholic) took third in 27.64.

In the 400 meters, junior Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) led a 1-2 Flying Dutch effort with a run of 57.48 seconds. Leahy was runner-up at 59.41.

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) won with a run of 11:08.80. Sophomore Shelby Bolser (St. Louis, Missouri / Kirkwood) took third at 11:50.45.

Hope crossed the finish line first in the 4x400 relay. Leahy, Fisher, junior Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire/Saint Johnsbury Academy) and Schermerhorn recorded a time of 4:11.93.

In the triple jump, junior Elliana Johnson (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) won with a leap of 10.35 meters (33 feet, 11 ½ inches). Johnson also took second on the long jump at 5.22 meters (17-1 ½).

The Flying Dutch finished runner-up in two events.

In the mile, junior Anna Duesenberg (Rocky River, Ohio / Saint Joseph) clocked a second-place run of 5:43.28. Sophomore Grace Baldauff (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / Northgate) was third at 5:43.70.

In the shot put, senior Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) took second with a toss of 11.52 meters (37-9 ½).

Hope's next meet is Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Windy City Rumble hosted by the University of Chicago.
