ACHA Men's Hockey Splits Series at John Carroll

The 25th-ranked Hope College men's hockey team earned a split during a road trip to Ohio this weekend, defeating John Carroll University, 6-0, on Friday but losing 5-0 to the Blue Streaks on Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen are now 5-1 on the season.

On Friday, sophomore left wing Cade Pratt (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Mercer Chiefs NCDC) scored twice, including the game-winner 7 minutes, 8 seconds into the first period.

Hope converted three power-play goals. The scorers were freshman center Connor Dvorak (Freeland, Michigan / Freeland / Wausau Cyclones NA3HL), freshman center Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo NAHL) and senior center Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central / Shreveport Mudbugs NAHL).

The Flying Dutchmen outshot John Carroll, 53-17. Sophomore goalkeeper Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL Premier) made 17 saves.

On Saturday, Hope held a significant edge in shots at 46-28, but John Carroll goalkeeper Brodie Lerch stopped all of them. The Blue Streaks broke a scoreless tie with a two-goal second period.

Hope's next ACHA Division 1 series is against Saginaw Valley State University. The Flying Dutchmen host the opener on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Griff's IceHouse West, then play SVSU at Bay County Ice Arena in Saginaw on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m.
