Women's Cross Country Runs Well at Augustana Interregional Invitational

The regionally ranked Hope College women's cross-country team battled through challenging running conditions and a competitive field to perform well at the Augustana College (Illinois) Interregional Invitational on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch competed in two divisions at an event that featured 10 nationally ranked teams and hot, humid weather.


In the Gold Division, Hope placed 12th out of 40 teams with 380 points. Sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin–La Crosse won the meet with 88 points.

"We had some really good performances," head coach Mark Northuis said.


Senior Molly Durow led the Flying Dutch by finishing 15th out of 349 runners with a season-best 6K time of 22:04.3.


Sophomore Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central) recorded a season-best, 62nd-place time of 23:03.6.


Junior Grace Baldauff (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / North Allegheny) took 102nd in 23:24.6.


Freshman Taylor Mitchell (Otsego, Michigan / Otsego) placed 106th in 23:28.2.


Freshman Dylan Ballin (Brookville, Ohio / Brookville) posted a PR and 116th-place effort of 23:33.6.


Freshman Miranda Sawvel (Laramie, Wyoming / Centennial) finished 142nd in 23:52.0.


Senior Lexi Deighan (Birmingham, Michigan / Seaholm) was 167th in 24:07.9.


In the Blue Division, Hope placed fifth out of 28 teams with 192 points.


Junior Elise Bodary (New Boston, Michigan / Father Gabriel Richard) led the Flying Dutch with a PR run of 24:08.9, good for 30th place.


Junior Annika Sytsma (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian) finished 35th with a season-best 24:11.9.


Junior Shelby Bolser (St. Louis, Missouri / Kirkwood) posted a PR and 51st-place time of 24:35.8.


Sophomore Maura Lichiello (Howell, Michigan / Howell) crossed the finish line right after Bolser, taking 52nd with a season-best 24:36.9.


Sophomore Tessa Rindfliesch (Holland, Michigan / Zeeland West) clocked a season-best 24:53.9 and placed 67th.


Hope next competes at the MIAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 11 a.m. at Broadway Acres Golf Course in Charlotte. The University of Olivet hosts the meet.
