Adelyn Raad shone brightly for the Hope College women's soccer team on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The sophomore defender recorded two more assists during a 4-0 victory against Saint Mary's College in the regular-season finale, moving within striking distance of the Flying Dutch's single-season record.

Raad (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) now has an MIAA-leading 12 assists this season, tying her for second place at Hope with Lindsey (O'Dell) Engelsman from the 1998 season. Ellie Tresslar holds the program record with 13 assists, set in 2005.

Raad helped set up two Hope goals 2½ minutes apart, propelling the Flying Dutch to a 3-0 first-half lead.

After senior Ainsley Harris (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) opened the scoring in the eighth minute with her sixth goal of the season off an assist from senior Lauren Ellinger (Fishers, Indiana / Hamilton Southeastern), Hope struck again in the 21st and 24th minutes.

Senior Lina Rea (Macomb, Michigan / Utica) headed in her eighth goal of the season off a corner kick from Raad to make it 2-0.

Moments later, sophomore Heidi Berkey (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) buried a rebound for her fourth goal of the season after a breakaway shot from Rea that was set up by a long pass up the middle from Raad.

The Flying Dutch closed the scoring in the 88th minute when freshman Joanna Namel (South Lyon, Michigan / Saint Catherine of Siena Academy) converted the second of her two penalty-kick attempts seconds apart. It was Namel's first collegiate goal.

Hope (12-3-2 overall) outshot Saint Mary's 35-5. The Belles finished the season with a 8-5-3 record.

The Flying Dutch reached the 12-win mark for the second consecutive season and will play next in the MIAA Tournament semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at home against an opponent and time to be determined.

Hope, seeded second in the six-team tournament after posting a 6-1 league record, will face the winner of a first-round game on Saturday, Nov. 1. The complete MIAA Tournament bracket will be announced after regular-season play concludes tonight.
