The Hope College men's hockey team skated to a pair of one-goal victories against Northwood University this weekend in American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 play.
The Flying Dutchmen won 3-2 during a Saturday matinee at Midland Ice Arena in Midland and 4-3 on home ice Friday night at Griff's IceHouse West.
Hope is 4-0 on the season.
On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen received goals from junior
Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center), freshman left wing Alex John (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Detroit Country Day / Metro Jets USPHL Premier) and freshman right wing
Gerdas Paulauskas (Lisle, Illinois / Acellus Academy / Toledo Cherokee USPHL Premier).
Paulauskas netted his team-leading fifth goal of the season with five minutes remaining in the third period to extend Hope's lead to 3-1.
Sophomore goalie
Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL Premier) stopped 43 shots.
On Friday, a three-goal second period proved to be the difference for the Flying Dutchmen.
Four different skaters scored for Hope, including freshman center
Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo NAHL), whose first goal of the season came on the power play and extended the lead to 4-2.
Hope also received goals from senior center
Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central / Shreveport Mudbugs NAHL), freshman center
Connor Dvorak (Freeland, Michigan / Freeland / Wausau Cyclones NA3HL) and senior forward Brenden Tarperning (Fenton, Michigan / Flint Powers).
Wigfield made 30 saves.
The Flying Dutchmen's next series is at John Carroll University (Ohio) on Friday, Oct. 10, at 8:10 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Gilmore Arena in Gates Mills, Ohio.
