Katie Hermann and Emme D'Errico Lead No. 8 Women's Swim/Dive During Day 2 at Kenyon

The duo of sophomore Emme D'Errico and senior Katie Hermann recorded two of the fastest times in Hope history in the 400 individual medley on Friday, leading the eighth-ranked women's swimming and diving team during the second day of Hope's mid-season meet.

Hermann (Canton, Michigan / Mercy) clocked a personal-best 4:26.51 in the morning preliminaries to record an NCAA B qualifying time, coming in under the invited time to the NCAA Championships from last season. She also posted the morning's top time in the event with the second-fastest time in school history before finishing fourth in the evening A final.

D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) swam a pair of personal bests in the 400 IM, dropping over four seconds from her morning swim to place second in the A final. Her NCAA B qualifying time of 4:27.75 during the evening session is the third-best mark in Hope history.

In the 100 breaststroke, fifth-year Greta Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) placed fourth in the A final and notched an NCAA B qualifying time with a season-best time of 1:04.10. Freshman Riess Estep (Smyrna, Georgia / Whitefield Academy) also qualified for the A final. She finished ninth in the race with a season-best 1:05.24 to rank ninth on Hope's top 10 list.

Estep was one of several newcomers from Hope to display fast swims in individual events on Friday.

Freshman Makenzie Baldwin (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa), who already owns the third-fastest 100 back in Hope history, clocked a 55.86 in the A final to place second. Freshman Ella Cabbage (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Central) finished second in the B final, touching the wall in a season-best 58 seconds.

In the 200 freestyle, freshman Claudia Busse (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) won the B final. Her season-best time of 1:52.92 ties her for eighth best in school history, matching the mark set by Shelly Russell in 1988.

In relay action, the team of Baldwin, Estep, Gidley, and senior Laurel Wasiniak (Northville, Michigan / Northville) placed fourth in the 200 medley relay.

After two days of competition, Hope sits in third place among the seven teams with 740 points. No. 3 Kenyon leads the field while No. 11 Carnegie Mellon is second.

The Total Performance Invitational concludes Saturday, Nov. 22, with preliminary sessions beginning at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 5:30 p.m. Five individual events will be held, in addition to one relay. The diving competition will also take place on Saturday with the women's one- and three-meter events.

During the competition, swimmers participate in preliminaries in the morning, then the top 30 swimmers from each event compete in one of three finals during the evening session. The top 28 finishers in the evening score points for their team.
