Three Claim MIAA Athlete of the Week Accolades

Three Hope College sophomores earned MIAA Athlete of the Week honors: men's swimmer Everett Cox, women's swimmer Emme D'Errico and women's basketball post player Anna Richards.
Cox (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Prep) is the MIAA Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.

Last week, Cox turned in some of the nation's top times in his primary events, earning A-final appearances in two races at the Kenyon College Total Performance Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.

Cox placed eighth in the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday with a career-best 4:34.31, a mark that currently ranks 14th in Division III. On Friday, he followed with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle, posting an NCAA B-cut time of 1:38.94, which stands eighth nationally.

D'Errico (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Farmington) is the MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and in her career.

Last week, D'Errico delivered a historic weekend for Hope at the Kenyon Total Performance Invitational. The psychology major's biggest moment came Saturday, when she broke a 32-year-old school record in the 200 butterfly during prelims and lowered it again in finals, finishing in 2:03.90. That time would have earned an invite to last year's NCAA Championships and currently stands fifth in Division III.

Earlier in the meet, D'Errico earned an NCAA B cut and a second-place finish in the 400 IM with a 4:27.75, a time that ranks sixth nationally. She also posted another career best in Thursday's 200 IM, touching in 2:05.89, which ranks 14th in the country.

Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) is the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

Last week, Richards helped lead the Flying Dutch to a 3-0 week featuring wins against Alma College (85-59), Carthage College (80-52) and No. 10 Illinois Wesleyan University (76-73). She earned MVP honors at the Michele Schoon Classic.

On Nov. 18, Richards opened the week with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 22 minutes against Alma. Richards followed with 17 points, six rebounds, an assist and two steals in 23 minutes against Carthage on Friday, then capped the weekend with a standout performance Saturday against nationally ranked Illinois Wesleyan: 17 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals.
