Cross Country Runner, Men's Soccer Forward Earn MIAA Athlete of the Week Accolades

Hope College cross country runner Logan Begeman and men's soccer forward Jackson Mindling have been named MIAA Athletes of the Week for the second time in their careers.

Begeman (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central) is the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

Mindling (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) is the MIAA Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season.

Begeman led a dominant effort by the Flying Dutchmen at the MIAA Championships on Saturday in Charlotte, Michigan, placing first with a personal-best 8K time of 25 minutes, 4.5 seconds at Broadway Acres Golf Course.

The sophomore became Hope's 12th MIAA individual champion while leading the Orange and Blue to their 16th MIAA championship — and their first in 39 years.

Mindling recorded the fifth hat trick in Flying Dutchmen history at Van Andel Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, securing a 3-1 victory against Trine University and clinching an outright MIAA regular-season championship.

The sophomore's go-ahead goal came with 5 minutes, 36 seconds remaining in the game. He added his 12th goal of the season less than two minutes later.

It was Hope's second consecutive MIAA regular-season title and its first outright championship in 19 years.
