Mark Northuis Selected as USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year

A historic season has brought Hope College men's cross country coach Mark Northuis '82 additional postseason accolades.

The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association selected Northuis as the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year following the 2025 season. Earlier, he was named the MIAA Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Northuis guided the Flying Dutchmen to NCAA regional and MIAA championships in the same season for the first time in program history. Hope also finished 23rd at the NCAA national championships.

The regional title was the second in program history and the first since 1980. The MIAA crown was the 16th in program history and the first since 1986.

Northuis coached a program-best seven USTFCCCA all-region honorees and a program-record 10 All-MIAA selections, including sophomore Logan Begeman (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central), the league's Most Valuable Runner.

Begeman was joined on the all-region team by seniors Carston Cole, Lucas Guidone and Jonathan Harlow; sophomores Elias Kretchmar and Cooper Jacobsen; and freshman Aiden Moore.

The All-MIAA honorees included all seven all-region runners, along with juniors Nile Devers and Ian Petruska and freshman Elijah Forbord.
