Men's Cross Country Studies and Races to USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

The NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional and MIAA champion Hope College men's cross country team also excelled academically.

The Flying Dutchmen, who also placed 23rd at the NCAA Championships last season, recently earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honors.

In addition, five Hope runners received USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition: seniors Lucas Guidone and Jonathan Harlow, and sophomores Logan Begeman, Cooper Jacobsen and Elias Kretchmar.

USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors are awarded to programs that post a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifying criteria. The Flying Dutchmen recorded a 3.47 team grade-point average.

To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 25% of their respective NCAA regional championship meet.

This is the second USTFCCCA All-Academic selection for Begeman (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central), Guidone (Chicago, Illinois / Taft) and Kretchmar (Granville, Ohio / Granville), and the first for Harlow (Holland, Michigan / Homeschooled) and Jacobsen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern).

Begeman, Harlow and Kretchmar are mechanical engineering majors.

Guidone majors in biochemistry and molecular biology.

Jacobsen is an exercise science major.
