Men's Lacrosse Erupts for Near-Record Goal Total in Illinois Tech Victory

Sixteen different goal scorers propelled the Hope College men's lacrosse team to a near-record performance in the Windy City on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen soared to a 26-4 victory at Illinois Tech, finishing one goal off the program record for goals in a game and setting a new mark for the highest-scoring road game.

Hope (3-4) won for the second time in a row by equaling the 2016 goal effort at home against Defiance College (Ohio). The 2014 Flying Dutchmen hold the record with 27 goals against Dubuque University (Iowa) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The 26 goals are tied for the 11th-most in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game this season.

Senior midfielder Samuel Haensly (Seabrook, Texas / Clear Falls HS) led a balanced Hope attack with a career-high four goals.

Junior midfielder Jackson Early (East Lansing, Michigan / East Lansing) chipped in three goals

Senior attacker Sam Bowen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) netted a team-best six points with two goals and four assists.

Senior attacker Nick McCreery (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) added two goals and two assists.

Sophomore attacker Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) scored twice and assisted on one goal.

Junior attackers Carl Bailey (Oxford, Michigan / Oxford) and Will Tobias (San Diego, California / St. Augustine) contributed two goals apiece.

Freshman attacker Jack Zuiderveen (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) had a two-point game with one goal and one assist.

Hope's next game is Saturday, March 22, at noon vs. Southwestern University (Texas) at Calvin University.
