2025 Hope College Women's Outdoor Track and Field Season Preview

The Hope College women's outdoor track and field team has its sights set on a seventh consecutive MIAA Outdoor Championship this spring.

Attempting to extend the longest title reign in program history will be boosted by several talented returners in multiple events.

The Flying Dutch open the outdoor season this weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Hope aims to build off an accomplished indoor season that featured one NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships qualifier and MIAA Most Valuable Track Athlete, four program event records and nine All-MIAA honorees.

Sprinter Sara Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West HS) qualified for indoor nationals in the 200 and 400 meters. The junior repeated as the MIAA's Most Valuable Indoor Track Athlete after becoming the first MIAA student-athlete to win the 60-, 200- and 400-meter runs at the indoor league championships.

Schermerhorn was joined by eight teammates on the All-MIAA Indoor Teams after they finished first or second in events at the MIAA Championships: seniors Greta Robrahn (Zeeland, Michigan / Zeeland East) and Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central); juniors Frances Cozzens (Lyman, New Hampshire / Saint Johnsbury Academy), Molly Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) and Catherine Leahy (Elk Rapids, Michigan / Elk Rapids); sophomore Amanda Markham (Hoffman Estates, Illinois / William Fremd); and freshmen Sofia Fisher (Lombard, Illinois / Montini Catholic) and Lily Sackrider (St. Johns, Michigan / St. Johns).

ROSTER

Six returning All-MIAA Outdoor Track and Field recipients anchor the Flying Dutch roster: Leahy, Robrahn, Schermerhorn, senior Amanda Timonen (Palatine, Illinois / William Fremd), junior Ava Schmidt (Saline, Michigan / Saline) and senior Jasmine Zimmerman (Byron Center, Michigan / Home School).

Schermerhorn, Leahy and Zimmerman went 1-2-3 in the 400 meters last season. Schermerhorn and Zimmerman raced on the gold-medal winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays; and, Leahy and Schmidt on the 4x100 relay.

Schemerhorn also finished runner-up in the 100 and 200 meters.

Robrahn captured her first women's shot put crown with a toss of 12.32 meters (40 feet, 5 inches).

Timonen led a 1-2 Hope javelin finish with a PR throw of 38.07 meters (124 feet, 11 inches).

Hope brings back top-three finishes in four more events from the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships.

In the 800 meters, Markham placed second as a freshman after recording a PR time of 2:16.99.

In the discus, Kamryn Bice (Monroe, Michigan / Monroe) posted a runner-up finish as a sophomore with a throw of 36.28 meters (119-0).

In the 5,000 meters, Maddy Struck (Hainesville, Illinois / Grayslake Central) clocked a third-place run as a junior of 18:02.33.

In the triple jump, Elliana Johnson (East Lansing, Michigan / Haslett) placed third as a sophomore with a leap of 10.57 meters (34-8 ½).
