Women's Lacrosse Topped by Endicott in Spring Break Finale

The Hope College women's lacrosse team mounted a furious second-half comeback but fell to perennial Commonwealth Coast Conference powerhouse Endicott College (Massachusetts), 13-8, on Thursday in Panama City Beach, Florida.

It was the first meeting between the two teams.

The Flying Dutch scored of the game's final seven goals after being shut out in the first half.

Endicott, winners of the past three CCC titles and 13 league championships overall, jumped to a 7-0 halftime lead thanks to six different goal scorers and nine first-half saves from goalkeeper Payton Quirk.

Hope (3-4) scored four times in each of the final two quarters.

Juniors Caleigh Randall (Lansing, Michigan / DeWitt HS) and Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) shared team-high honors with two goals apiece.

Four of their teammates chipped in a goal and an assist apiece: seniors Kerrigan Brown (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt) and Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn), junior Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan / Stoney Creek) and freshman Elliana Hillard (DeWitt, Michigan / DeWitt). 

Junior goalkeeper Samantha Smith (Westfield, Indiana / Westfield) collected a season-high 14 saves for the Flying Dutch.

Bailey Sheehan topped Endicott (4-3) with four goals.

The Flying Dutch finished their spring break trip with a 1-1 record after defeating Nazareth College (New York), 17-7, on Tuesday.

Hope's next game is Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at DePauw University (Indiana).
