Four Chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Four from Hope College have been selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week: seniors Sam Bowen and Luke Wierengo in men's lacrosse, junior Liam Danitz in men's outdoor track, and junior Molly Durow in women's outdoor track and field.

Bowen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

The attacker spearheaded a balanced attack for the Flying Dutchmen during a 19-11 victory against four-win Southwestern University (Texas) on Saturday at Calvin University.

A business major, Bowen collected two goals, two assists and one caused turnover.

Wierengo (Northville, Michigan / Northville) is the MIAA Men's Lacrosse Specialist of the Week for the first time this season and the second time in his career.

The midfielder scooped up two ground balls against Southwestern and helped keep the Pirates at bay.

A business major, Wierengo also chipped in a goal.

Danitz (West Branch, Michigan / Ogemaw Heights) is the MIAA Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and in his career.

The sprinter recorded NCAA Division III's fastest outdoor 200-meter run with a career-best and third-place 21.47 seconds at the Emory University Spring Break Classic last weekend in Atlanta.

In the 100 meters, Danitz posted his fastest run at 10.63 seconds to finish seventh. The exercise science major is tied for seventh in the nation.

Danitz anchored the fourth-place 4x100 relay, whose time of 41.61 seconds is seventh-fastest in the Division III.

Durow (Glenview, Illinois / Glenbrook South) is the MIAA Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

The runner posted career-best times in two events at the Emory University Spring Break Classic last weekend in Atlanta.

An elementary education major, Durow clocked a 2:19.43 in the 800 to finish fourth and a 1:06.95 in the 400 hurdles to place 11th.
