Women's Soccer Topples Capital with Heads-Up Play

The Hope College women's soccer team proved headstrong at home on Friday night, paving the way for a 2-0 victory against Capitol University (Ohio).

The Flying Dutch scored in each half off headers at Van Andel Soccer Stadium to win for the third time this season.

Seniors Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) and Ainsley Harris (Zeeland, Michigan / Holland Christian) delivered goals during the non-league game.

Dieppa struck first, netting her second goal of the season in the ninth minute by deflecting in a corner kick from sophomore Adelyn Raad (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) with her noggin from eight yards out.

It was Dieppa's sixth career goal. Raad recorded her second career assist and her first this season.

Despite the Flying Dutch dominating possession, a one-goal difference remained until the 57th minute.

On a charge up the near side, junior Halle Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) centered a deep cross that Harris knocked in with her head from 12 yards out.

It was the first goal of the season for Harris and the 10th of her career. Barnard collected her first assist of the season and the sixth of her career.

Hope (3-2-1) outshot Capital (2-2-1) by a 22-3 margin.

Junior goalkeeper Clare Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) needed to make only two saves to help the Flying Dutch snap a three-game winless streak.

Hope next plays on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 4:30 p.m. Central at Wheaton College (Illinois).
