Women's Cross Country Races at the Western Michigan University Invitational

Junior Olivia Ippel posted a 41st-place finish to lead the regionally-ranked Hope College women's cross country team on Friday at the Western Michigan University George Dales Invitational.

The 100-runner field featured runners from eight NCAA Division I schools and two from Division III. Hope took ninth with 231 points.

Ippel (St. Joseph, Michigan / St. Joseph) clocked a sixth-place run of 22 minutes, 48.9 seconds on the 6K course at Prairies Golf Club in Kalamazoo.

The Flying Dutch, who were ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, also received scoring finishes from:
  • 51. Sophomore Mary England (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Central), 23:10.0;
  • 56. Freshman Taylor Mitchell (Otsego, Michigan / Otsego), 23:14.0;
  • 65. Junior Grace Baldauff (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / Northgate), 23:30.6;
  • 73. Freshman Dylan Ballin (Brookville, Ohio / Brookville), 23:38.1.
Ohio University took first after scoring 22 points. WMU was runner-up with 76 points.

Ohio's Allie Marton won the race in 21:02.4.

Hope's next meet is Friday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m. Central at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational.
