Four Selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Four Hope College student-athletes have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week: women's swimmer Greta Gidley, women's diver Laura Zupancic, men's diver Finn Sanders and volleyball setter Lauren Lee.

Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) is the MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the first time this season and the fifth time in her career.


The senior elementary education major recorded the top NCAA Division III finishes in all four of her events at Friday's TEAM Be Better; Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan.


Gidley began the afternoon by swimming the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay in 29.59 seconds. The relay placed fifth with a time of 1:47.33. She then finished fifth in the 100 individual medley in 58.80, placing behind three Michigan swimmers and one from Purdue. In the 25-yard mystery shootouts, she advanced to the fourth round. To close the meet, Gidley led off Hope's 400 free relay with a 53.26 split; the team finished in 3:34.45.


Zupancic (Fort Collins, Colorado / Liberty Common) is the MIAA Women's Diver of the Week for the first time.


The junior exercise science major placed third on the 3-meter board at the TEAM Be Better; Invitational with a score of 211.65 points, trailing a pair of Wolverines.


Sanders (Wyoming, Michigan / Grandville) is the MIAA Men's Diver of the Week for the first time.


The freshman took third on the 1-meter board in his first collegiate meet with a score of 209.78 points at the TEAM Be Better; Invitational, finishing behind two Michigan divers.


Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Saline) received MIAA weekly honors for the second time this season and the 10th time in her career.


The senior biology major led the Flying Dutch to four-set victories against nationally ranked Marietta College (Ohio) and Illinois Wesleyan University over the weekend at DeVos Fieldhouse.


Lee totaled 84 assists (10.50 per set), 14 digs (1.75 per set), eight kills, four service aces and 13 points (1.63 per set) over two days. She currently ranks second in the conference with 9.84 assists per set (541 total).
