The Hope College women's soccer team turned Van Andel Soccer Stadium into a showcase of offensive firepower on Tuesday, striking for a season-high seven goals in a 7–0 triumph over The University of Olivet.
The seven-goal outburst came one shy of the stadium record of eight, achieved twice in program history (8–0 vs. Saint Mary's in 2016 and 8–0 vs. Albion in 2012).
Hope (6-2-2) wasted no time asserting control in the MIAA opener.
In the fourth minute, defender senior Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville HS) surged forward and finished off a corner kick, with sophomore Adelyn Raad (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) providing the assist.
Barely two minutes later, Dieppa turned provider, linking up with Raad again to set up junior Halle Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) for a quick 2–0 lead.
The Flying Dutch kept pressing, and by halftime the lead swelled to 5–0 thanks to a pair of goals from sophomore Heidi Berkey (Gand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) and a composed strike from junior Kayla Cannon (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian).
Hope's relentless attack continued into the second half, with freshman Joanna Namel (South Lyon, Michigan / Saint Catherine of Siena Academy) scoring her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute and Cannon connecting for her second of match in the 85th to cap the night.
In her first career start, goalkeeper sophomore Maggi McHugh (Boyne City, Michigan / Boyne City) recorded two saves and a shutout as the Flying Dutch defense limited Olivet to just two total shots.
On the other end, Hope poured on 38 shots, including 22 on goal, and dominated the corner battle, 8–0.
Cannon and Berkey each tallied two goals apiece, with Dieppa, Barnard, and Namel adding one each. Assists came from Raad (2), Dieppa, Harris, Namel, and Mefford.
Nine different Flying Dutch have now found the back of the net this fall, highlighting the depth and balance across the roster.
The Flying Dutch's next game is on Friday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m. at Alma College.
