Parker Hovey Earns MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week Accolades

Hope College forward Parker Hovey has claimed MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors for the third time this season.

The junior from Shelby, Michigan (Hart), led the Flying Dutchmen to a 2-0 start to MIAA play last week by averaging 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 4.5 assists against Trine University and Olivet College.


Hope defeated Trine, the second-place team in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, 82-80 on Wednesday at DeVos Fieldhouse, and Olivet, the fourth-place team in the preseason poll, 67-65 on Saturday on the road.


Against Olivet, Hovey scored a career-high 33 points and matched career highs with six assists and six steals. The 6-foot-5 Hovey also grabbed seven rebounds while shooting 60% from the floor (12 of 20).


Against Trine, Hovey scored a team-high 22 points on 61.5% shooting (8 of 13) while totaling seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.


Hovey was previously named MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week on Dec. 8 and 15.
