No. 15 Men's Hockey Splits Series with No. 7 Adrian

In a Top 15 matchup, the Hope College men's hockey team earned a split of its showdown series against Adrian College, winning on home ice Friday, 6-2, after losing on the road Thursday, 5-3.

The 15th-ranked Flying Dutchmen are now 17-6 on the American Collegiate Hockey Conference Division I season, including a second-place 6-4 mark in GL6 conference play.

Hope handed the seventh-ranked Bulldogs their first GL6 defeat of the season. Adrian (20-4-1-0) tops the GL6 with a 7-1 league record.

On Saturday, the Flying Dutchmen snapped a 1-1 tie with two second-period goals, including the game-winner from freshman center Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo NAHL) at the 9:55 mark for his team-leading 16th goal of the season.

Hope sealed the victory with three third-period goals. Sophomore left wing Cade Pratt (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Mercer Chiefs NCDC) and sophomore center Ryan Jaros (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central / Battle Creek Kernels, USPHL) struck 1:46 apart with an empty-netter and a power-play goal, respectively.

Senior Jake Onstott (Zeeland, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central / Shreveport Mudbugs NAHL) added one goal and three assists.

Sophomore goaltender Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine / Saint Ignatius College Prep / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL) stopped 31 shots for the Flying Dutchmen.

On Friday, Adrian rallied with five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, after senior defenseman Michael Stechschulte (Rochester, Michigan / Cranbrook Kingswood / Little Caesars U18 AAA) scored his first goal of the season to give Hope a 3-1 lead 4:07 into the second period.

Hope's next series is Friday-Saturday, Jan. 23-24, against the Western Michigan University Stallions. The Flying Dutchmen host Friday's 7:30 p.m. game at Griff's IceHouse West and play at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
