Women’s Basketball Claims Three First-Place Votes in MIAA Preseason Poll

Hope finishes second in the nine-team poll

The Hope College women's basketball team ranked second in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll, earning 59 points powered by three first-place votes.

Coaches could not vote for their team. Trine University, last season's MIAA regular-season champion, topped the nine-team poll with 62 points.

Hope, last season's MIAA Tournament champion, was followed by Calvin University (50 points), Albion College (42), Alma College (37), Saint Mary's College (26), Adrian College and Kalamazoo College (tied with 19 points), and The University of Olivet (10).

Led by head coach Brian Morehouse, the Flying Dutch aim to build on their 19th MIAA Tournament title in program history and a run in the NCAA Division III Championships to the Sweet 16.

Hope returns several key contributors, including two D3hoops All-Region and All-MIAA First Team selections: junior guard/forward Maddie Petroelje (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) and junior guard Anna Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic).

Anna's twin sister, junior forward/center Leah Richards (DeWitt, Michigan / Lansing Catholic) rounds out Hope's returning all-conference group after earning Second Team All-MIAA honors.

The Flying Dutch tip off the season on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 6-7, with the four-team Michele Schoon Tournament at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope's MIAA opener is Saturday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. against Saint Mary's College at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Season and single-game tickets are on sale through the Hope College Ticket Office, 100 East 8th St., in person, online or by phone at (616) 395-7890.
