Women’s Soccer Scores Three Times, Tops Alma on Senior Day

Fittingly, Bri Rose started the ball rolling for the Hope College women's soccer team on Senior Day.

The senior midfielder centered a perfect corner kick in the middle of the goal area that freshman teammate Rowan Klein headed in for the first goal against eight-win Alma College on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

The Flying Dutch, who honored nine seniors before the game, went on to claim a 3-0 victory. Hope improved to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play.

Rose's third assist this season set up Klein's first goal, which gave the Orange and Blue a 1-0 lead with 1 minute, 10 seconds remaining in the first half. Rose (Hudsonville, Michigan / Unity Christian) shares team-high assist honors with senior forward Halle Barnard (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford).

After Klein (Clarkston, Michigan / Oakland Christian, Hope tacked on two second-half goals. Junior Alexis Suptela (Palatine, Illinois / William Fremd) and freshman Emme Carpenter (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern) broke open the game by scoring from similar spots on the field 2 ½ minutes apart.

Suptela scored her fourth goal this season in the 62nd minute by launching a cross from 12 yards out that tucked inside the right post. Carpenter booted her cross inside the right post from 10 yards out in the 65th minute.

Junior Amelia Streberger (Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan / Grosse Pointe Park North) assisted on both goals for her first points of the season.

Hope dominated possession, earning a 26-2 advantage in shots against Alma, which fell to 8-2-1 overall and 0-2 in MIAA play

Senior keepers Clara Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) and Maggi McHugh (Boyne City, Michigan / Boyne City) combined for the Flying Dutch's fourth shutout. Feenstra made one save in 73 ½ minutes. McHugh did not need to record a save.

Before the game, the Flying Dutch honored their senior class: Barnard, Feenstra, McHugh, Rose, Heidi Berkey (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven), Kayla Cannon (Holland, Michigan / Holland Christian), Wendy Miedema (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Loy Norrix), Jenna Schreiber (Jenison, Michigan / Unity Christian), and Audra Usiak (Dimondale, Michigan / Lansing Christian).

Head coach Holly Van Noord said the seniors have been a selfless, resilient, and joyful group who have helped shape the team's heart.

"Throughout their time at Hope, they have continued to raise the standard through love, servant leadership, and a genuine commitment to one another. They have poured into their teammates, navigated challenges with resilience, and been intentional about the way they live and lead," Van Noord said. "They have also brought an incredible amount of energy, laughter, and joy to our team, creating memories and relationships that will last far beyond their time on the field. Their commitment to HOCOWOSO has left a lasting legacy, not only because of what they have accomplished, but because of how they loved the people around them."
