Men's Hockey Sweeps Kent State, Eyes GL6 Playoffs

The Hope College men's hockey team wrapped up the regular season with a two-game sweep of Kent State University on home ice this weekend in American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 play.

At Griff's Icehouse West, the Flying Dutchmen won, 7-0, on Friday and, 9-5, on Saturday.

Hope (24-7) will play next in the GL6 conference quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. against Davenport University at Griff's IceHouse West.

On Friday, freshman left wing Alek John (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Detroit Country Day Metro Jets USPHL Premier) led the Flying Dutchmen with two goals and one assist.

Senior defenseman Austin Ieuter (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow / Metro Jets USPHL Premier) recorded a four-assist game.

Sophomore goalie Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL Premier) stopped 11 shots.

On Saturday, sophomore left wing Cade Pratt (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Mercer Chiefs NCDC) registered a hat track and collected three assists.

Freshman center Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo / NAHL) never trailed after scoring the game's first two goals and jumping to a 4-1 lead during the opening 20 minutes.

Senior goalie Ander Ciesielski (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Mattawan) made 18 saves.
