Five Claim MIAA Athlete of the Week Accolades

Five members of the Hope College track and field teams have been named MIAA Athletes of the Week: seniors Sara Schermerhorn and Erickson Kunzler, junior Dylan Terpstra, sophomore Elias Kretchmar and freshman Aiden Moore.

Schermerhorn is the MIAA Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Kretchmar, Terpstra, Kunzler and Moore are the MIAA Men's Indoor Track Athletes of the Week.

Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) claimed the eighth MIAA Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week accolade of her career and the first this season.

The exercise science major won the women's 400-meter dash title at the University of Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, clocking a time of 54.60 seconds as the only NCAA Division III runner in the field. She currently leads the nation in the event by 0.89 seconds.

Schermerhorn also ran the 400-meter leg of the distance medley relay on Friday, splitting 55.45 as the team posted a time of 12:16.77, which currently ranks second nationally.

Kretchmar, Terpstra, Kunzler and Moore are honored after recording the fastest time in NCAA Division III in the distance medley relay at the Meyo Invitational.

The relay clocked a time of 9:58.25 and finished just one second after Ohio State University.
