Purple Community Games Raise Record Amount for Van Andel Institute

Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer and Volleyball hosted games this fall

This year's Purple Community Games at Hope College raised a record $12,674.97 for Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids.

The college hosted three Purple Community Games this month: women's soccer on October 8, women's volleyball on October 14, and men's soccer on October 15.


On January 24, Hope presented a ceremonian check to Van Andel Institute during halftime of the the Flying Dutchmen's men's basketball game against Calvin University at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The amount raised was the most by the college for Van Andel Institute, founded in 1996 and now home to more than 500 scientists, educators, and staff. The organization's mission is cutting-edge biomedical research and inspired science education.


Van Andel Institute Purple Community is a grassroots fundraising program whose dedicated volunteers support VAI's mission of improving the health and enhancing the lives of current and future generations.


The Hope Athletics and Purple Community partnership helps provide annual internships for Hope students at Van Andel Institute.
