Four Hope College female standouts have been selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior Greta Gidley in swimming, senior Sara Schermerhorn in track, senior Sydney Vis in women's basketball, and freshman Grace Dawson in diving.
Gidley (Franklin, Michigan / Mercy) is the MIAA Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season and the eighth time in her career.
The elementary education major claimed seven gold medals over four days while helping the Flying Dutch claim a sixth consecutive MIAA championship last week at the Holland Aquatic Center.
Gidley set MIAA records in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:01.89 and the 200 individual medley at 2:00:47 and won the 100 butterfly. She became the Flying Dutch's second four-time MIAA champion in the 200 IM. Gidley also swam legs on MIAA champion 200 freestyle, 200 medley, 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays.
Dawson (Jackson, Michigan / Western) is the MIAA Women's Diving Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after winning the MIAA title on the 1-meter board on Saturday with a score of 441.25 points and finishing runner-up on the 3-meter board on Thursday by less than three points with a score of 448.95.
Dawson was also named the MIAA's Most Valuable Diver.Â
Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / West) is the MIAA Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the ninth time in her career.
The exercise science major clocked the nation's sixth-fastest time in the 200 meters on Friday at the University of Michigan Silverston Invitational, posting a run of 24.39 seconds.
Schermerhorn lowered her school record in the event.
Vis (Byron Center, Michigan / South Christian) is the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in her career.
The elementary education major averaged 17.5 points and 52.0% field-goal percentage last week during victories against Albion College and Trine University at DeVos Fieldhouse.
Vis led the Flying Dutch in each game with 18 points vs. Albion and 17 vs. Trine. The forward set a season-high with five 3s against Trine.
