No. 14 Men's Hockey Rebounds to Take One from Purdue Northwest

The 14th-ranked Hope College men's hockey team bounced back to split a weekend GL6 series with Purdue University Northwest.

The Flying Dutchmen won 4-2 on Saturday at home at Griff's IceHouse West after dropping a 2-0 decision Thursday on the road.

Hope (22-7) finished conference play with a 7-5 record. The Flying Dutchmen have clinched a spot in the six-team GL6 Tournament and will host a first-round game Wednesday, Feb. 18, at a time to be announced.

On Saturday, Hope jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first period. Junior defenseman Trevor Davis (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center) opened the scoring with a short-handed goal with four minutes remaining in the period.

Three minutes, 14 seconds later, sophomore center Ryan Jaros (Portage, Michigan / Portage Central / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL Premier) scored on the power play off assists from Davis and freshman center Logan Nickolaus (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center / Wisconsin Windigo NAHL).

The Flying Dutchmen extended their lead with second-period power-play goals from sophomore left wing Cade Pratt (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center Mercer Chiefs NADC) / and junior right wing Brady Breit (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center).

Goaltender Sebastian Wigfield (Blue Hill, Maine/Saint Ignatius College Prep / Battle Creek Kernels USPHL Premier) made 30 saves.

On Thursday, Hope outshot Purdue Northwest 50-29 but was shut out for the second time this season. Wigfield recorded 27 saves.

The Flying Dutchmen wrap up the regular season with two 7:30 p.m. home games Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14, at Griff's IceHouse West.
