Men's Lacrosse Stifles Illinois Tech at Home

A fast start launched the unbeaten Hope College men's lacrosse team to a 13-2 victory against Illinois Tech on Wednesday at home and the Flying Dutchmen's first 5-0 start to a season since 2011.

The Flying Dutchmen never trailed after jumping to a 5-0 lead during the first quarter.

Sophomore Jack Zuiderveen (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) recorded a hat trick for the second consecutive game.

Zuiderveen capped the Flying Dutchmen's dominant first quarter by scoring his first goal of the game with nine seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Sophomore midfielder Weston Godbold (Lowell, Michigan / Lowell) opened the scoring at the 10:09 mark in the first quarter, then assisted 56 seconds later on the first of two goals from sophomore attacker Preston Hoexum (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern).

At the 6:40 mark, freshman Elliott Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) made it 3-0 Hope, set up by his brother, junior Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville).

Gibson Heethuis then struck for his team-leading 15th goal of the season at the 4:56 mark.

Defensively, the Flying Dutchmen set a season-best with two goals allowed to Illinois Tech, which fell to 0-5.

Hope's next game is Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m. Central at 5-1 Elmhurst University.
