Four Selected as MIAA Athletes of the Week

Four Hope College standouts have been chosen as MIAA Athletes of the Week: senior Sara Schermerhorn in women's indoor track, junior Terin Maynard in women's basketball, and sophomores Corbin Bennetts in baseball and Orion Yant in men's basketball.

Schermerhorn (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City West) is the MIAA Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the third time this season and the 11th time in her career.

The exercise science major raced to a third consecutive 400-meter crown at the MIAA Championships, presented by Collegiate Credit Union, with a meet-record time of 57.29 seconds. Schermerhorn surpassed her own 2025 mark. 

Schermerhorn also finished runner-up in the 60 meters, with a time of 7.61 that ranks 16th nationally, and placed second in the 200 meters with a run of 24.37 that ranked third in the nation. She capped the meet by anchoring the winning 4x400 relay that finished in 4:02.20.

Maynard (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Jenison) is the MIAA Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

The exercise science major anchored Hope's run to the title at 2026 MIAA Women's Basketball Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.

During the 73-58 semifinal win over Albion College, Maynard recorded five points, three rebounds, a team-high four assists, and two steals. The guard followed with a double-double in the 75–62 championship victory over top-seeded Trine, finishing with 15 points and a game-high 10 assists while adding four steals and two rebounds.

Bennetts (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) is the MIAA Baseball Position Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

The leftfielder helped the Flying Dutchmen to a 2-1 record at Otterbein University over the weekend. Bennetts batted .500 with seven hits, including a double, seven RBIs, five runs, and three home runs. He posted a 1.214 slugging percentage and .500 batting average. Bennetts also added an outfield assist, throwing out a runner at the plate.

Yant is the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and his career.

The forward propelled the Flying Dutchmen to the 2026 MIAA Men's Basketball Tournament Presented by Collegiate Credit Union title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.

At The University of Oilvet, Yant led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds while shooting 6-of-8 (.750) from the field and 6-of-8 (.750) at the free-throw line during a 73-63 neutral-site semifinal victory over Calvin University. He added an assist, a block, and a steal. 

Yant followed with 14 points in the 72-65 championship win over Trine, going 5-of-7 (.714) from the field and 4-of-6 (.667) from the line, while contributing three assists and a block.
