Men's Lacrosse Rolls at Spalding, Wins Ninth in a Row to Open Season

The best beginning to a Hope College men's lacrosse season continued on Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Flying Dutchmen charged to a 19-2 victory at Spalding University, winning for the ninth time in as many games. Hope scored the game's first 14 goals with strikes from 12 different shooters during the opening 33 minutes of the teams' first meeting. 

Senior attacker Will Tobias (San Diego, California / St. Augustine) and freshman midfielder Jackson Vasquez (Lake Orion, Michigan / Lake Orion) shared team-high honors by collecting three goals apiece.

Three more teammates chipped in two goals apiece: sophomores Luke O'Connell (Colorado Springs, Colorado / Discovery Canyon Campus) and Jack Zuiderveen (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville), and freshman Ezra Carefelle (Muskegon, Michigan / Norton Shores). 

Junior attacker Gibson Heethuis (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) finished with a team-high five points on one goal and four assists.

The Flying Dutchmen led 7-0 after the first quarter and 12-0 at halftime. Spalding (1-9) did not score until 4 minutes, 5 seconds into the second half.

Hope's next game is Tuesday, March 31, at 4 p.m. at Transylvania University.
