Gibson Heethuis Delivers Record Nine Assists Again, Men's Lacrosse Dominates Alma

Hope College attacker Gibson Heethuis joined elite company during the Flying Dutchmen's 27-1 lacrosse victory at Alma College on Saturday.

The junior from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville), became the second NCAA Division III standout to record at least 9 assists in a game twice this season. Heethuis also posted 9 assists on March 17 during a 23-5 home victory against Edgewood University.

Centenary's Noah Walsh has recorded 14- and 11-assist games this season. Heading into play Saturday, the nine-assist mark has been reached nine times, including Heethuis.

Heethuis also raised his season assist total to 46, passing Colin Stecco's record of 44 set in 2021 and 2023.

The Flying Dutchmen continued their longest streak to open a season, improving to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play.

Hope scored the game's first 13 goals, covering the game's first 17 minutes, 36 seconds. After Heethuis scored 52 seconds into the game, he assisted on seven goals and scored two more times.

The 27 goals tied the Flying Dutchmen's program record, first set against Dubuque University in 2014 at Van Andel Stadium.

Nine of Hope's 15 goal scorers had multiple goals against Alma, which fell to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in MIAA play. Senior midfielder Andon Rieger of Elmhurst, Ill. (York) collected a team-high four goals.

The Flying Dutchmen received two goals apiece from seniors Jackson Early of East Lansing, Mich. (East Lansing), Jack McNamara of Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Central), and Will Tobias of San Diego, Calif. (St. Augustine), sophomores Ryan Gillen of Portage, Mich. (Portage Northern), Preston Hoexum of Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Northern), and Jack Zuiderveen of Hudsonville, Mich. (Hudsonville); and freshman Cash Ten Have of Hudsonville, Mich. (Hudsonville).
