Women's Lacrosse Rebounds Convincingly at 10-Win Saint Mary's

The Hope College women's lacrosse team bounced back in a big way on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch thumped Saint Mary's College, 22-4, in South Bend, Ind., to rebound from their first league loss in 26 games on Tuesday to Kalamazoo College.

Hope, which improved to 9-2 overall, is now tied for second place in the MIAA standings with Calvin University at 3-1. Both teams trail Adrian College by one-half game. Both Adrian and Calvin lost to the Flying Dutch earlier this season.

Senior attacker Julia Brown of Ada, Mich. (Forest Hills Central), scored a game-high five goals for Hope. The Flying Dutch featured five more multi-goal scorers against Saint Mary's, which fell to 10-3 overall and 2-2 MIAA play. The Belles entered the day one of five teams tied for second place in the MIAA standings.

Hope snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring six consecutive times over a nearly seven-minute span during the first quarter.  The Flying Dutch erupted for all 10 goals during the second quarter for a 17-2 halftime lead.

Junior midfielder Stella Bottum of Alto, Mich. (Caledonia), chipped in four goals.

Senior Sydney LaPrairie of Rochester, Mich. (Stoney Creek), contributed three goals and one assist. Freshman midfielder Lucy Harrell of Poland, Ohio (Poland Seminary) also scored three goals.

Sophomore Megan Bushart of Caledonia, Mich. (Caledonia), and junior attacker Dani Dahlinger of Mattawan, Mich. (Mattawan) netted two goals apiece.

Hope next plays on Wednesday, April 15, at 5 p.m. against Albion College at home at Van Andel Stadium.
