Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Trine, Moves One Win from MIAA Title Share

Hope clinch MIAA Tournament top seed on Tuesday at home

Box Score The Hope College women's lacrosse team put together another offensive explosion, from top to Bottum, on Saturday as the Flying Dutch defeated Trine University, 20-8, at Zollner Stadium in Angola, Indiana, to move within one game of an unprecedented fourth consecutive MIAA championship.

Hope, now 5-1 in the MIAA and 11-2 overall, remained in a three-way tie for first place with Calvin University and Adrian College atop the conference standings with the win. Hope holds the tiebreaker advantage for the top seed in the conference tournament by virtue of head-to-head victories over the Knights and Bulldogs.

The Flying Dutch can claim at least a share of the MIAA title and the tournament top seed Tuesday, April 21, against Alma College at 5 p.m. at Van Andel Stadium. Calvin plays at Adrian on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Senior midfielder Stella Bottum (Alto, Michigan/Caledonia) scored three of her five goals in the first quarter as the Flying Dutch raced to a 7-1 lead and kept the pedal on the gas the rest of the way in reaching the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this season. Bottum's five goals tied a career high she set April 24 of last year against Calvin.

Senior attacker Julia Brown (Grand Rapids, Michigan/Forest Hills Central) scored three of her five goals in the second quarter. Bottum chipped in two more, as the Hope lead grew to 13-5 at halftime.

Eight different players scored goals for the Flying Dutch. Julia Brown added two assists to go along with her five goals for a seven-point performance. Senior midfielder Sydney LaPrairie (Rochester, Michigan/Stoney Creek) scored three goals, while senior midfielder Caleigh Randall (Lansing, Michigan/DeWitt) and sophomore midfielder Ireland Brown (DeWitt, Michigan/DeWitt) each scored twice.

Junior attacker Dani Dahlinger (Mattawan, Michigan/Mattawan) dished out a career-high four assists and sophomore attacker Sarah Rott (Grand Rapids, Michigan/Catholic Central) added three.

Hope outshot the Thunder 43-17 for the contest and collected 25 ground balls to Trine's 16. The Thunder committed 25 turnovers to 17 for the Flying Dutch.
