Sprinter Sara Schermerhorn Qualifies for 400-Meter NCAA Final

Hope College sprinter Sara Schermerhorn will close a decorated track career with two NCAA Championships races.

The senior from Traverse City, Michigan (Traverse City West), qualified for the 400-meter final by clocking the top time during her prelim heat on Friday in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Schermerhorn, the 2026 indoor national champion in the 400 meters, recorded a run of 54.90 seconds.

On Thursday, Schermerhorn advanced to the 200-meter final.

Schermerhorn will run in the 400-meter title race on Saturday, March 22, at 2:10 p.m. Central and the 200-meter final at 4:40 p.m. The races at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will be streamed on ncaa.com

Schermerhorn is attempting to earn her third All-American First Team accolades in the outdoor 400 meters and her first in the 200 meters.

Also on Friday, Hope's 4x100 relay of senior Ava Schmidt of Saline, Michigan (Saline), Schermerhorn, freshman Savana Monville of Auburn, Michigan (Bay City Western), and sophomore Sofia Fisher of Lombard, Illinois (Montini Catholic), took 15th with a season-best 47.76 seconds.
