Jaidyn Klimp Claims All-America Heptathlon Honors in First NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

The freshman scored 5,033 points over two days and placed fifth

Jaidyn Klimp joined an elite group of Hope College women's heptathletes on Friday by delivering an All-America performance during the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The freshman from Galesburg, Michigan (Galesburg Augusta), finished fifth during the two-day event, scoring 5,033 points over seven events for the highest NCAA Championships total in Flying Dutch history.

"Jaidyn's All-American performance in the heptathlon was the exclamation mark on her historic freshman season," head coach Jordan Bartolazzi said. "Scoring 5,033 points as a freshman — especially when she learned three of the seven events for the first time this year — is an amazing accomplishment. She's got a tremendous level of confidence and belief in herself, and has really discovered the perfect event for her skill set in the heptathlon. I'm so proud of her and grateful to have been part of this special season with her."

Klimp is Hope's sixth different All-American heptathlete and the first since Alison Rich in 2017. Lindsay Lange '08 accomplished the feat a program-best three times.

On Friday, Klimp recorded the competition's top javelin throw at a personal-best 38.36 meters (125 feet, 10 inches).

Klimp tied for 14th in the long jump with a leap of 5.34 meters (17-6 ¼).

Klimp closed the meet by clocking the third-fastest 800-meter run at 2 minutes, 19.70 seconds.

Central College senior Olivia Bohlen won the event by scoring 5,158 points. Klimp was the meet's highest finishing freshman and one of two who qualified.
