Volleyball Starts Three-Day Road Trip on Winning Note

The Hope College volleyball team served up a successful start to a busy, two-state slate of games this week.

The Flying Dutch swept host North Park University on Thursday near Chicago, winning in three sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-16).

Hope, which improved to 4-3 overall, now heads to Iowa for three matches over the next two days. The Orange and Blue face Gustavus Adolphus on Friday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m. Central at Cornell College before playing twice again on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Coe College: 10 a.m. Central vs. No. 21 St. Olaf College and 12:30 p.m. Central vs. Coe.

Senior middle hitter Kamryn Burbridge (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) spearheaded the Flying Dutch attack by hitting a season-best .706 with a game-high 12 kills. It was her fourth consecutive match with double-digit kills.

Burbridge also recorded a team-best five blocks.

Freshman middle hitter Maddie Ostrander (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) chipped in six kills, while sophomore outside hitter Amelia Gagnon (Belmont, Michigan / Grand Rapids West Catholic) contributed a team-best three aces along with five kills.

Sophomore setter Brooke Hehl (Rochester, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest) totaled 31 assists.

Senior defensive specialist Kathryn Oates (Liberty Township, Ohio / Cincinnati Christian) topped the Flying Dutch with 16 digs.
