The Hope volleyball team is the new top-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III poll announced this afternoon.
Coach Becky Schmidt's Flying Dutch, who are 25-1 overall, are the No. 1 team in a national poll for the first time in school history.
Hope received 35 of 48 possible first-place votes to total 1,186 points and overtake Calvin for the top spot. The Knights (24-1) are ranked second after finishing with 1,164 points and 13 first-place votes.
The Flying Dutch ended Calvin's six-week reign atop the AVCA rankings. Hope beat Calvin in five sets Friday at DeVos Fieldhouse and ended the Knights' 49-match Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) win streak. Calvin had been ranked No. 1 since Sept. 10.
Hope returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Adrian for a 6:30 p.m. MIAA match on the DeVos Fieldhouse Main Court.
