Hope Men's Soccer Draws Wisconsin-Oshkosh For NCAA Tournament Opener

The Hope men's soccer team will travel to Iowa this week for NCAA Division III Tournament play.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament champions drew Wisconsin-Oshkosh as a first-round opponent for action at Wartburg (Iowa) College. The match is slated for Friday 7:30 p.m. Central Standard Time.

Hope (16-4-2 overall) is part of a 61-team field. The Flying Dutchmen are making their third NCAA postseason appearance in four years and their 11th under the direction of head coach Steven Smith.

The other first-round match at Wartburg pits Wartburg (15-4-2) vs. Dominican, Ill. (12-4-2). Winners meet in the second round.

Wisconsin-Oskhosh is making its 13th NCAA postseason trip. The Titans (15-1-4) suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday in the title match of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

All NCAA tournament games leading up to the national semifinals will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. Two first-round games will be conducted Nov. 14 with the winners advancing to play Nov. 16 against two teams that earned first-round byes.

Nineteen sites will host four teams for first- and second-round competition on either Nov. 15-16 or Nov. 16-17. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites Nov. 22-24. 

Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the national semifinals, which take place at Toyota Field in San Antonio on Dec. 6, with Trinity University (Texas) and the San Antonio Sports Foundation serving as co-hosts. The national championship game will be played Dec. 7.
