The Hope volleyball team has placed four players on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Great Lakes All-Region Team in NCAA Division III.

Additionally, the Flying Dutch's Becky Schmidt has been chosen AVCA Division III Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year.

Hope's player honorees are senior middle hitter Courtney Earles of Kentwood (East Kentwood HS), junior outside hitter Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS), junior outside hitter Amy VanderStoep of Holland (West Ottawa HS) and sophomore setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport (Fruitport HS).

All-region players are eligible for All-America consideration that will be announced during the Nov. 21-23 Division III Women's Volleyball Championships being hosted by Hope.

This is the largest number of all-region selections the Flying Dutch have had in a single season. They passed the previous mark of three set in 2009 and 2012.

The all-region honor is the third for Grasmeyer. She can join Holly VanderBerg (1986-89) as a four-time all-region honoree next season. Heather Velting (1997-99) and Greer Bratschie (2010-12) also are three-time, all-region picks for the Flying Dutch.

Schmidt has guided the Flying Dutch to a 29-2 overall record and a share of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular-season title this season.

Hope is ranked second in the AVCA poll heading into the Division III national tournament. The Flying Dutch were ranked No. 1 for three weeks.
