Hope senior Joel Rietsema of Rockford (Rockford HS) achieved All-America honors at the NCAA Division III track and field championships for the second consecutive season. Rietsema finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
Rietsema ended his collegiate career as the Hope record-holder in the event (1:50.38).
Rietsema became just the sixth Hope male athlete to achieve All-America honors multiple times having finished fourth as well as a junior. Hope's other All-America performance in the 800 was the eighth place finish by Steve Rabuck in 2001.
Hope also took second at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day as the Flying Dutchmen won gold medals in four events.
The seven-team meet was hosted by Hope at its Gordon B. Brewer Track.
Individual champions were freshman Boone Marois of Traverse City (Traverse City Central HS) in the 100-meter dash (:10.99) and 200-meter dash (:22.54) dash and Rietsema in the 800-meter run (1:53.00). Hope also won the 4x100 meter relay (:42.32) with the quartet of senior Steffon Mayhue of Holland (Holland HS), freshman Bryce Richards of Eaton Rapids (Eaton Rapids HS), senior Andrew Kreichelt of Northville (Northville HS) and Marois.
Rietsema and Marois both made the All-MIAA Track & Field Team. It was Rietsema's second selection.
