Two Hope College athletes have been honored by the Michigan
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) for their performances
last week ending Sept. 1 — Nora Kirk of women's
soccer and Sheri McCormack of women's cross country.
Kirk has been chosen the MIAA Women's Soccer Offensive Player of
the Week, while McCormack is the MIAA Women's Cross Country Runner
of the Week.
Kirk scored two goals in leading the Flying Dutch to two
season-opening road wins in Ohio. The junior from Maumee, Ohio
(Notre Dame Academy), had an insurance goal in a 3-1 win at
Denison, then scored the game-winner on a header off a corner kick
with 35 seconds remaining to lift Hope to a 2-1 win over
Kenyon.
Kirk is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time
in her career.
McCormack defended her individual title as she led the Flying
Dutch to the women's championship at the Vanderbilt Invitational
hosted by Hope. The senior from Holland (West Ottawa) posted a time
of 18 minutes, 32 seconds over the 5-kilometer
course.
McCormack is being honored as Runner of the Week for the fourth
time in her career.
