Flying Dutchmen Second At MIAA Cross Country Jamboree

Three top-eight performances propelled the Hope men's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree Saturday hosted by Adrian.

Coach Mark Northuis' Flying Dutchmen totaled 55 points to trail only reigning league champion Calvin, which had 38. The jamboree counts one-third toward the overall MIAA championship.

Senior co-captain James Rogers of Saginaw (Valley Lutheran HS) led Hope with a third-place run of 26 minutes, 30 seconds on the 8K course at Lenawee Country Club.

Junior Ben Zank of Midland (H.H. Dow HS) placed seventh for the Flying Dutchmen at 26:46, while senior co-captain Sam Pederson of Mt. Prospect, Ill. (Prospect HS), pictured at right, came in eighth at 26:48.

Hope had seven of the meet's fastest 22 times, including points from sophomore Joseph Beemer of St. Joseph (St. Joseph HS) in 18th at 27:24 and junior Tim Simon of Richland (Gull Lake HS) in 19th at 27:32.
