The Hope volleyball team announced recipients of three team awards during its recent team banquet.
Senior middle hitter Courtney Earles of Kentwood (East Kentwood HS) received the Flying Dutch's "Eye of the Tiger" Award.
Senior middle hitter Mari Schoolmaster of Portage (Portage Central HS) was given the Outstanding Contribution Award.
Sophomore libero Jayne Kessel of Byron Center (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) picked up the Most Improved Award.
Hope posted a 32-3 record during the 2013 season. Coach Becky Schmidt's Flying Dutch reached the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Tournament, claimed the second regional title in school history and won their 12th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title.
Hope produced four players honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America program: junior Jenna Grasmeyer of Jenison (Hudsonville Unity Christian HS) on the first team; Earles and sophomore setter Lauren Hazekamp of Fruitport (Fruitport HS) on the second team; and junior Amy VanderStoep of Holland (West Ottawa HS) as honorable mention.
Earles joined Grasmeyer and Hazekamp as All-MIAA First Team. Schoolmaster and VanderStoep were All-MIAA Second Team.
