The Hope College men's soccer team is aiding the quest to end malaria this weekend.
The Flying Dutchmen will sell specially designed T-shirts at Saturday's homecoming game against Calvin. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
T-shirts cost $10. Proceeds will be donated to the Night of Nets initiative that is a global campaign and partnership to help end malaria. They will go directly to provide a bed net for someone affected by malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.
Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes.
In 2012, malaria caused an estimated 627,000 deaths according to the World Health Organization, with an uncertainty range of 473,000 to 789,000. They were mostly among African children.
